Sole woman candidate Datuk Seri Ng Yen Yen received the highest votes among ten candidates vying for the three vice-president posts.
"The fact that almost 90 percent of delegates are men shows that they believe women have potential and that their voice should be heard," she said after the elections results were announced at Wisma MCA here today.
Ng polled 1,528 votes followed by Datuk Donald Lim Siang Chai (1,469), Datuk Chor Chee Heung (1,202) and Gan Ping Sieu (1,202).
"I will continue to focus on strengthening unity among MCA members and prepare the party for the next general election," she said.
Lim hopes that the new Central Committee would be allowed to conduct its duty in a democratic manner.
He said it was important for the party to get the approval of all members before making decisions.
Chor said he would help the new president to strengthen the Chinese community and nation on the whole.
"We have to settle internal problems, cast aside personal interest and work as a team for the benefit of the Chinese," said the Deputy Finance Minister.
Gan Ping Sieu said he too would cooperate with the new party leadership to strengthen MCA.
He said factional politics has to be stamped out for the sake of unity.
Central Committee member Heng Seai Kie called on MCA members to put aside personal agenda for the love of the party.
"If priority is given to the party, then everything will be focused on the party's interest," said the Deputy Minister of Information Communication and Culture.
